Anthea

Anthea has cemented herself in the forefront of house and techno talents.  Once a behind-the-counter fixture of London’s Flying Records, Black Market Records, and Phonica Records, Berlin-based Anthea has been honing her tastemaker’s ear for over 10years.

After building a reputation as the most in-demand female DJ in London, Anthea now disseminates her distinct brand of funk-fueled music to every corner of the globe as a world-renowned DJ, producer, and vocalist, collaborating alongside many of the scene’s underground heroes and pioneering her very own, Partisan label.

Anthea’s rise from the East London club scene to tours of the U.S, Europe and South America stemmed from her roof-raising sets at local institutions in London such as Fabric, where she was a resident at Phonica Records Nights and a regular special guest in the early days of Fuse – London.

In her more recent move to Berlin, the city’s generous set times and extended opening hours made a natural fit for the immersive narrative of her performances-an immaculate balance between psychedelic excursions and killer grooves. Playing at clubs such as Panorama Bar and Hoppetosse in Berlin, Resolute-NYC, Goa-Rome, Closer-Kiev, Rex-Paris, Fuse-Belgium (to name a few), holding down a summer residency at Club Der Visionaere and, being invited on the infamous Boiler Room Live-Stream, is a testament to the skills and selections at her disposal and this shines through with her infectious performances for leading clubs and festivals around the world.

Regarding Anthea’s productions, it’s apparent that quality is valued over quantity; her releases and remixes have been carefully selected. Anthea’s keen sense for mood, groove, and sleek sound aesthetics saw early efforts on Freak N’Chic, Tuningspork and Cecille records. While her collaborations with close friend back in 2008 Alex Celler produced some studio chemistry, their track « The Playmaker » held a place for 3 years as one of Resident Advisor’s Top 40 tracks of all time. Anthea also joined forces with Werner Niedermeier as JC Freaks, in 2007 for a run of deep and classy EPs for Mojuba and Wandering. Her feature and vocal work on Guti’s album Patio de Juegos, as well as the big hit “Option One” are further testament to her creative collaborations.  Anthea’s “Distraction EP” including Dan Ghenacia and Subb-An’s remixes – were instant summer hits on One Records UK.

As well as her artistic endeavors, you can also see evidence of Anthea’s commitment to cutting edge house and techno in her previous A&R work at Brouqade Records and, most recently, her very own Partisan imprint.  Launching with an exciting residency at Moscow’s Rodnya club, Partisan has evolved into a platform for artists that closely align with her discerning taste. To date there have been many sold out releases with showcases around the world.

With an emphasis on creating, and not imitating, anyone who finds themselves locked in on the dance floor when Anthea is at the controls will attest that she’s highly adept at manipulating time, whether she is using trippy selections and hypnotic blends that melt away the hours, or giving you something banging or uplifting or piecing together music from across different eras and making it sound like a unique soundscape, with her rhythmic flow.  It’s in this devotion to the most exciting sounds, whenever and wherever they might come from, that has made her such a potent force, in house and techno scene.

Trends might come and go, but Anthea’s approach is a timeless constant.
