What More Could You Want?

Steve Angello from Swedish House Mafia trio tells us what has he been up to lately...

How do I feel right now?
I’m extremely excited! We’ve been pushing so hard, putting on Masquerade Motel parties around the world and this will be the first summer where we see a summer for what it is. I’ll still do 20 shows a month of course but I can’t wait to embrace the island and take Ibiza for what it is, which means playing on the beach and building sandcastles with my daughter who is now one year old. My life has changed a lot. It’s very different from two years ago. It’s a big change. My life is not all about me anymore! I was so stuck up in doing what I was doing before. I would put on the TV and order room service but when I went to Australia recently I did normal things: I had a day off, went for a walk, grabbed a coffee and just enjoyed the simplicity of it all. This summer will be more of the same. I’ll probably rent a big boat, take my friends to Formentera and enjoy it.

You’re on an island in the middle of the ocean – what more could you want?
We all have houses in Ibiza now and we’ll be here until the end of the season. If you compare the stuff we accomplished last year with ‘One’ and then again this year in Miami and our shows in the UK, all I can say is there are a lot of bigger things coming! ‘Save The World’ is out now and we kept the same Masquerade Motel theme at Pacha so that adds to the momentum. The crowds have been unbelievable and all of us come in with a very confident mindset. We’re ready for the amazing summer ahead. “We also played some big shows in the UK last month. London was unbelievable, Alexandra Palace is three times bigger than Brixton, the vibe and energy was ridiculous and we had more than 10,000 people every night.

Mindblowing. I think the UK in general has been very good to us – it was one of our very first touring places and I feel very whole in London. I’ve been going since 2003. We started at Ministry, then moved to Koko, then Brixton and now Alexandra Palace. And now we’re planning something even more amazing that I can’t talk about yet! Dance music is so big now. Everything’s flipped – there are a lot more genres and more electro-pop crossover but most importantly, house music is where it should be. But it’s not only the producers. Bumping into people like Tom Ford, it’s pretty clear that fashion and music – and dance music especially – have never been so connected. I think dance music is the leading genre in music and it’s all going towards us. I just want to have an amazing time and show the fans how to have a good time. Ibiza is a gathering for 17 weeks. It’s going to be like New Year’s Eve every week!
