Gracefully reaching out from the top of the underground scene to the Pacha crowd...
The quarter finals, semifinals and grand final itself took place this past weekend in Madrid. 22 DJs took part from countries as far afield as Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Albania, Italy, UK, and most of Europe. On the morning of day 1 the they competed with ten minute sets in a closed door studio, competition was so hot that although 10 were scheduled to go through there was a two way tie and so 11 were selected, the names were called out and the session closed, only for the judges to recount and see that in fact there was a three way tie and so a final 12th dj was called back and given the good news that he had qualified, tears of sadness were replaced by those of joy. Day 1 evening session at open door club 40 where the 12 semifinalists played 15 minute sets to win one of three places in the grand final...it was extremely close and the three finalists were DJ Seskills from Russia, Junior Windros from UK and DJ Shults from Ukraine, all three different. The Russian full of tricks and beats and a crazy skull mask post punk image, Junior the epitome of cool good vibes, funky beats and accapellas and DJ Shults, a 19 year old full of energy and big room anthems played with total abandon and love.

On day two was the grand final showdown in Pacha Madrid, each DJ with a 30 minute session. Seskills mesmerized with image and trickery and the crowd were in awe of his talent, Junior up next created a groovy fun vibe with chunky beats and old classic acapellas on top of loops and tracks, the youngster from Ukraine then took to the booth and from the first moment he addressed the room and hit the play button he had the whole club jumping, he played a headline selection of tracks, some may say it was an obvious selection and commercial, others could say he didn't employ loops or acapellas, the use of such is fine but is not the measure of a DJ, the true mesure is what effect. The dj has on the dance floor, the kid from kiev smashed it and took the title, junior came second and Seskills came third...the crowd shouted their approval, and most of the original 22 competitors welcomed him as the winner on the night - welcome to Pacha Recordings DJ Shults, Movida Coronita champion 2011.
